Kinetic Sand: An indoor alternative to going to the beach

Sensory Kinetic Sand:

Let us explore the numerous ideas and activities to go along with Sensory kinetic Sand. Kinetic sand is 98% sand, 2% polymer and 100% perfect!

Rainy weather??
Stuck indoors??

Let me introduce you to your new friend.
Something that will keep your kids occupied for hours.
And It is none other than,

Kinetic Sand

What I like most about  Sensory Kinetic sand is its ability to set with molds perfectly. Kinetic sand captures even the tiniest details of the molds and leaves you mesmerized. And, it is definitely better than wet beach sand, because it doesn’t stick! When I first opened the kinetic sand box, I had no idea that my daughter would play with it for the whole day. Yes, really! She loved it! It was like a whole day spent at the beach, except for the fact that it was raining and we really were indoors! Who doesn’t love sand anyways?? (Well, to tell you the truth, my daughter really did hate sand when she was younger. But, Thankfully, she has come around-ofcourse we helped her by planning sensory play time– and now she loves it)

Sensory Kinetic Sand activities:

Kids will always be kids. And hence, they will always get bored. No matter what you do or how hard you try, they will still get bored with the same toy after a while.

Admittedly, it took my daughter quite a long time to get bored with Kinetic sand, but ultimately, she did get bored with the regular molds.

Well, Nevermind! Out came all the other toys and they served as molds. And since Kinetic sand doesn’t stick, and is totally mess free, we had no difficulty in cleaning those toys later. Let these pictures give you some ideas and inspirations about things to use with Sensory Kinetic sand.

5 Sensory Kinetic Sand Activities:

  1. Regular sandcastle and other molds
  2. Learning with shape blocks
  3. Using LEGO blocks as molds- The sand blocks look amaaaaazing!!! (You will remember how, I love Learning with LEGO activities)
  4. Play with Surprise Egg toys (We filled the two halves of the egg, closed the lid tight, and when we opened it, it was a complete egg! I was more excited to see this than my daughter was!! Haha!)
  5. Using toothpicks and skewers (poking holes, drawing, practice writing)

Play dough versus kinetic sand:

Play dough activities are just as much fun as Sensory Kinetic sand activities. If I were to compare between the two, since they both provide opportunities for hands on learning, I would state these 3 differences.

  1. Kinetic sand is better with molds. it captures the intricate details, and the objects come out of the molds perfectly, as compared to play dough, which sticks to the mold, and the detailing is not quite as impressive.
  2. But, play dough is in fact better with imaginative play, as you can make any shape out of it, and it retains its shape. Kinetic sand is like regular sand. You cannot make objects that last. They would quickly break apart.
  3. Kinetic sand does not dry out, even when left open. Playdough dries quickly and if you forget to seal it properly, it become unusable.

Where To Buy Sensory kinetic Sand:

I have chosen the best options for you to buy online. I have selected these because these are the best quality ones that I know of, and aren’t very pricey.

This is the one that we have in our house. Only in a different color. The molds are great with a lot of intricate detailing.

I really like this one because it has a box for storing and carrying along. Also the price has been reduced, so it is a pretty great option.

I have included this option because it is only half the price as the other 2 but it does not have any molds. So if you already have sand molds, or you want to use it without molds, go for it!

Guys, if you love playing with Kinetic sand as much as we did (and I know you will), do let me know in the comments section below.
