Enchanted forest theme birthday party decoration ideas

Birthday In An “Enchanted Forest”

I had an indoor Enchanted forest party for my daughter’s first birthday. Almost everything is handmade, because I absolutely love doing this stuff and because I have amazing friends who were ready to come and help with all my crazy ideas at all times.

Enchanted Forest Party Ideas on Pinterest:

There are so many ideas on the internet that sometimes it’s overwhelming to choose which of those ideas to use and which to let go. Pinterest is my go to for party planning ideas, so it is not surprising that I planned almost everything through pinterest. There are some absolutely amazing inspirations out there. So, here is the compilation of all the Enchanted Forest party ideas that I loved. In this pinterest board, I have organized all of the ideas into categories which include: Invitation cards, Backdrop ideas, Cake table decoration, Party games etc.

How to organize an Indoor Enchanted Forest Party:

Now, let’s enter into the specifics of the Enchanted forest party that I had for my beautiful little fairy. What you will find very different in this Enchanted forest is that this one is indoors. I have never come across an Enchanted forest party that is held indoors, so it was a bit of a challenge to find an interesting backdrop. We don’t always have the liberty to host a party outdoors. Sometimes, the weather just isn’t right. So, I am really hoping that you guys will find this post helpful.

Backdrop for an Enchanted Forest Party:

The backdrop for this Enchanted Forest Party is super simple, yet elegant, though it is completely made of recycled stuff. I have made a huge tree for backdrop. We drew and cut out the tree out of scrap cardboard (there wasn’t a big enough cardboard, so we had to make it with several pieces of cardboard that we joined later with a masking tape).

We were looking for options to cover that cardboard tree in a realistic way when a friend of mine came up with the idea of gluing real tree shavings to the cardboard (Note: I did not damage any trees for this, it was autumn and I was lucky enough to find tree shavings lying all over the sidewalk). If you cannot find tree shavings consider using crinkled brown paper, because it looks quite realistic as well. This is what I was supposed to do originally, but you get inspired along the way, and the ideas transform.

After forming a basic tree structure with cardboard and tree shavings, we randomly wrapped the branches with fairy lights and vine leaves and we placed pine cones randomly over the branches. When we turned on the lights, the tree really looked like it belonged in an Enchanted forest.

Adding Details to the Cardboard Tree Backdrop:

To give it a bit more detail, I added a silver lantern, a small swing (made with tree branches and a jute rope)

Next, I made a hula hoop frame using this tutorial, with one variation. I didn’t use gold paint. Instead, I used baker’s twine to wrap around the hoop. It was a bit of a task, but it looked really elegant.  This was also put up on the tree for decoration.

Together, these things made up for an excellent Enchanted Forest Party decor and a stunning backdrop.

Table Frock:

Since everything else in the Enchanted Forest party was very colorful, I used a white table frock.

At the bottom of the frock, we put some grass (made from a green table cover). Then, we took out some printouts of fairies and mushrooms and a few animals, cut them out and then pasted them randomly on the table frock.

Cake:

First on the table is the cake. It came alive with vines and butterflies, flowers, mushrooms and a fairy (TINKER BELL) on the top. I ordered from Hira’s sweet Affair. I would like to mention here, that I am not affiliated to Hira in any way. Nor do I receive any commission if you buy from her. I simply think that she did an amazing job with the cake. So, I am just giving credit, where credit is due.

Fairy Garden:

Next, I made a fairy garden with a Fererro Rocher chocolate box and some sticks, we used some red lollipops to serve as mushrooms. I found a great book with fairies and trees, and off it went to the table to be used as a prop! A friend of mine found a very cute green grass Easter bunny that also looked real cute on the table.

Log House:

I also made a log house which was essentially a piece of a tree trunk (like the ones used for firewood), and decorated it with a door (made of cardsheet), printed fairies, vines and flowers. I used green yarn to make vines (Cut long pieces of yarn, twist them around like a braid. Use a variety of lengths and widths to give it a real feel). We put this log house on one side of the table, and from the little door, made a pathway with chocolate rocks. I even made a small bench with sticks to put on the side.

Mushroom Balloons:

On both sides of the table, we put balloon bunches. We used red polka dot balloons to depict mushrooms. Tree logs served as balloon weights.

Welcome Board for an Enchanted Forest Party:

The welcome board was pretty simple. I just took a card sheet, wrote “Welcome to Hussaina’s Enchanted Forest”, and put it up on a piece of log. We also put the same Easter bunny, that we used on the cake table, with the welcome board. They came in a pair. We had some extra pieces of log, so we just put them near the entrance for effect.

Something Special in an Echanted Forest Party:

I used to take pictures of Hussaina every month at the date she was born. She was born on 3rd may, so I used to take pictures on the 3rd of every month. I wanted to find a cute way to display these pictures. Something that went with my theme.

I found a great idea about making frames with small tree branches by tying them with a rope/ baker’s twine. My friends thought the frames lacked a bit of a “sparkle”, so they decided to sprinkle some gold glitter. Well, that really made them shine. And with Hussaina’s most recent picture in the center with some vine leaves and colored lights, it looked just perfect.

Enchanted Forest Party Favours:

We gave pencil cases and colours as gifts for kids, but we packed them in brown paper, drew green grass at one end and pasted some mushrooms. Please don’t ask how many mushrooms I had to cut. There came a time when I didn’t feel like seeing another mushroom. And by the way, I love mushrooms. So that is saying quite SOMEthing! When we displayed them on the table, we used a fairy log showpiece in the centre, that my friend found and lamps (red and green) from Ikea on the sides. They created some beautiful shadows.

Enchanted Forest Party Food:

I will not say much about the food. Instead, I would let this menu card and some pictures describe, what words can’t!

The chef is a friend of ours, so he planned something totally amazing to serve fruits. He used  foam boards, some dirt and bottle brushes on the side to create a forest. He made these for every table. He had them displayed outside the kitchen, so when I came in, I was so surprised and amazed to see the display, that it was a Gift in itself! He had also planned to use dry ice to create fog in a forest, but somebody put the dry ice out in the sun, and well, it vanished into thin air!

Enchanted Forest Party Costumes:

Well, we didn’t do much about costumes. We just incorporated the colors of our theme in our dresses. So we wore green, red or pink dresses with a hint of gold. For our Daughter Hussaina, I made a white dress, and she wore a floral headband to go with the Enchanted Forest party Theme. But if you would like to wear and plan something special, look at these amazing Enchanted Forest party costumes

Decorating With Balloons:

Last, but not the least, never underestimate the power of BALLOONS! Birthdays are just incomplete without balloons. It makes kids very happy and provides great decor. WIN WIN. We used around a 100 helium balloons, and even those didn’t seem like a lot! So, to CONCLUDE: Use as many balloons as you can!! There is no such thing as too many balloons in a birthday!

Well, that was all about my daughter’s 1st Birthday in an Enchanted Forest. I hoped you liked my post and found some great inspirations. If that is the case, I would love to hear some feedback. Any ideas or suggestions? Or let me know about your own Enchanted Forest party! Please do leave a comment below.
